Ahead of the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination where the National Identity Number would be a requirement, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said it has partnered the National Identity Management Commission to register 67 secondary schools in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The board noted that the pupils of the 67 schools would be conveyed to NIMC registration centres by buses provided by the Federal Capital Territory Administration to obtain their NIN.
JAMB revealed this in its weekly bulletin on Sunday.
The board said, “One of the key components in the preparations for the forthcoming registration and examination is an aggressive enlightenment campaign. The JAMB is partnering the FCTA and the NIMC to attain speedy registration of candidates for the 2020 UTME.
“The JAMB FCT Zonal Coordinator, Mrs Rifkatu Dauda, met with the NIMC and FCTA officials on the need to fast-track the registration process of final year students of secondary schools in the FCT in order to have their NIN ahead of the 2020 UTME registration.
“At the end of the meeting, the acting Education Secretary of the FCTA, Mr Marafa Umar, revealed that the secretariat had initiated a process of ensuring a smooth registration for the FCT students. He pointed out that a total of 67 secondary schools have been identified for effective coverage.
“NIMC, on its part, promised to provide enrolment forms to students ahead of the registration process to save time while their biometric capture and data review would be carried out when they are physically on the ground to complete the registration.â€
Meanwhile, the leader of the NIMC at the meeting, Mr Anna Pai, said the commission had put in place adequate logistics to ensure that students obtained their NIN without stress.
Pai said, “The commission is working to ensure that every student is captured before the 2020 UTME commences. The commission has centres in Bwari and Abaji Area Councils of the FCT and we intend to expand on the available facilities.â€
